Discover Yourself

I've been playing with my Tim Holtz "toys" again, lol. I originally thought of doing white on white, but once I decided to use heat embossing and texture paste, that plan went out the window. Eventually I settled for some soft and pretty shades of purple and again, intended putting this on a white base card until I saw how drab it looked. It really needed the black base to make the main panel 'pop'. The sentiment too, needed to be in black to stand out, even though I had the same stickers in white.

My process was to firstly stamp the script stamp with Versamark and clear emboss it. Then I inked over and wiped the excess off the embossing. The stencilled texture paste came next and once that was dry I stencilled again, this time with ink. That gorgeous butterfly is white embossed on vellum and fussy cut.

Materials used:
  • stamps - Perspective (TH), Attic Treasures (TH)
  • card - basic black, whisper white, vellum
  • distress oxide inks - Victorian velvet, dusky concord, seedless preserves
  • stencils (TH) - Harlequin, Roses
  • other - stitched rectangle die, Big Shot, texture paste, spatula, white and clear embossing powders, heat tool, craft foam, Dimensionals, blending brushes, Chit Chat stickers (TH)

I'm very happy with this one - what do you think? I'd love you to leave a comment or tick one of the boxes below.

Thanks for dropping by. Stay safe.

My Love For You

I'd been thinking it had been a while since I'd made a fancy fold card and when I came across a couple of nice double gatefold cards on Pinterest, I thought...yeah, okay. Once I'd decided to use the gorgeously cute Whale of a Time designer papers, though (along with co-ordinating stamp set, naturally), I had to use card for my base as the papers are only 6x6". Didn't matter - it gave me the opportunity to showcase the wonderful designs.

My first attempt ended up filed in the bin because the card ripped at the scoreline and I mucked up one of the folds, so today I set to and made another - this time, luckily, it all worked out fine. Except these things are ridiculously difficult to photograph while having to hold it closed with one hand! Lol.

Here's the front:

And here it is opened up:

Materials used:
  • stamps - Whale Done
  • card - pool party, pretty peacock, whisper white, Whale of a Time DSP
  • other - everyday label punch, Dimensionals

I love these papers and know I'm going to enjoy making more cards with them.

Thanks for stopping by. Stay safe!

A Koalaty Friend

For this week's challenge with my ladies, I asked them to make a card with a friendship theme and include the word 'friend' or 'friendship' on the front. I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do for my own sample, but as I was browsing through my stamps looking for something for another project, I came across this Clearly Besotted stamp set and an idea was born.

It's a very simple card but the beautiful Forever Greenery papers are scene stealers really, aren't they? Just stunning, and perfect for an Aussie card made by someone who lives in a World Heritage national park!

Materials used:
  • stamps - Plushies Down Under (Clearly Besotted)
  • card - whisper white, pretty peacock, Forever Greenery DSP
  • other - stitched rectangle die, Big Shot, craft foam, Copic markers, Sahara sand marker

Thanks for stopping by. Stay safe.

Be Authentic

It was playtime again this weekend and I'm still having fun with inks and sprays a la Tim Holtz. This card came about because I saw a colour combination I liked...and we all know, don't we, that there's not much more intrinsically alluring to a crafter than seeing something you want to emulate! Lol. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all. I've perhaps made it a tad grungier than I'm comfortable with, but as artists we have to keep pushing ourselves to try new things and step outside that box, so...it is what it is.

Materials used:
  • stamps - Mini Bird Crazy and Things (TH), Forever Fern (SU)
  • card - blushing bride, watercolour, not quite navy
  • distress oxide inks - speckled egg, tattered rose, faded jeans, brushed corduroy, fired brick
  • other TH products - speckled egg distress oxide spray, stencil THMS001, water spritzer, quote chips, chitchat stickers
  • other - blending brush, paintbrush, Tombow glue, stitched rectangle die, Big Shot, craft foam

Thanks for dropping by. Stay safe.

Wishing You Sunny Days - CAS on Friday Challenge #182

Welcome! I'm back again with another card for a CAS on Friday challenge.

This is challenge #182 and the theme is SUNSHINE.

Though it's now winter here in Australia, my fellow design team members are in the northern hemisphere where they're looking forward to sunny days and warm skies for a few months. For my card I couldn't go past this stamp from Penny Black; this little sweetie just epitomises sunshine and happy days. Makes me think of those times when you close your eyes, tilt your head back and just bask in the heat of the sun on your face. Even more fun when you can safely expose  more skin and soak up some vitamin D!

Materials used:
  • stamps - Beach Baby (Penny Black), Beach Happy (SU)
  • card - whisper white, pineapple punch
  • other - stitched rectangle framelit, Big Shot, craft foam, Copic markers, Stampin' Blends, white gel pen, MISTI

Is she a cutie-pie, or what? Her little fingers and toes are so adorable! I had a ton of fun colouring her with a combination of Copics and Stampin' Blends. The polka dots on the hat ribbon were added with a white gel pen.

Join in the challenge and share your creation with us! Over at the CASOF blog you can see the lovely cards my fellow team members have come up with.

Thanks for stopping by. Do stay safe.

Zany Friends

It's been a while, I know, since I promised more new stuff from the 2020-2021 annual catalogue, but when a global pandemic slows down delivery of said new stuff, I just have to go with the flow! At any rate, I finally got my hands on the ink pads and markers that match the new in-colour cardstock I've had since May, so here's a simple card for you.

You'll notice I'm still in 'black, white and one colour' mode, lol. Zebras are, of course, perfect for this! 😁 This is a new stamp set along with new in-colour, Magenta Madness. It's a bit 'in your face' for me, so I think I'll be using it in small doses, lol.

Materials used:
  • stamps - Zany Zebras, Beautiful Friendship
  • card - basic black, whisper white, Butterfly Gala DSP
  • other - Stamparatus, Sahara sand marker, magenta madness marker, basic black marker

I hope you're managing to play with some new stuff too! Thanks for calling in and stay safe.

Keep Faith

Unusually, today's project isn't a card.

Say what now?

What's going on, you ask? Wheeeellp, I've been playing (ie experimenting) with some Tim Holtz products as I'm loving me all kinds of things distress at the moment. You didn't see that coming, did you? (*wink) The other day I started a tag and finally managed to get that completed today.

Materials used:
  • stamps - Flower Garden (TH), Very Versailles (SU)
  • card - watercolour, whisper white
  • distress oxide inks - speckled egg, gathered twigs, vintage photo
  • other TH products - vintage photo distress embossing glaze, harlequin stencil, alphanumeric Tiny Type Lower dies, alpha tiles random, Transparent Wings, collage medium (matte)
  • other - crop-o-dile, sponge daubers, Copic markers, heat tool, Big Shot

I wanted the sentiment to be inspirational/encouraging - you know, a 'keep your chin up', 'everything will be alright in the end' kind of thing. Maybe for DD28, who's still stuck in deep lockdown in Scotland. Meanwhile, DD22 in New Zealand is now on fewer restrictions than we are here in Aus, so she's a happy chappy.

Now I have to decide whether to leave it as a tag or make it the focal point on a card. Thoughts?

Thanks for dropping by. Stay safe.

Nice Nurse

With the official arrival of winter and the sniffles season this week, I challenged my ladies to make a Get Well card. This afternoon I had a play and came up with my own sample.

She definitely looks like someone you'd want to avoid, doesn't she? Lol. Maybe she needs those chill pills more than the patient!

Now, much and all as this pokes fun, I have so much respect for our nurses and all medical staff, especially the amazing work they've done over the past few months.

Materials used:
  • stamps - Get Well (Art Impressions)
  • card - whisper white, basic grey, roccoco rose
  • other - Copic markers, stitched rectangle die, Big Shot, Stamparatus, craft foam, markers

Thanks for stopping by today and stay safe.
