My daughter bought some stocking holders and asked me to zhuzh them up for her. The only guideline I had was to avoid winter/snow etc - which is fair enough, with Xmas being a summer event here, after all. I used a combination of Tim Holtz Idea-ology pieces and dollhouse miniatures to make the set of four.
Here you can see the structure of the holders. They're very solid and heavy. I started with a layer of chipboard which I painted black then added some vintage gold wax around the edges. I added this layer (rather than just attach things to the holder itself) so they can be changed in the future if needed. This one uses TH salvaged deer and woodland trees (painted or inked by me), plus I added some fake grass.
These are pretty much all dollhouse miniature things I bought, plus I did the letter to Santa on the computer.
The train, rocking horse and ball are all dollhouse miniatures. The book covers I got off Etsy and just cut pieces of balsa wood for the inside. The Winnie the Pooh book has special significance.
This one was my biggest challenge cos my eyes don't see detail like they used to and Santa is pretty small, so my painting is not a perfect job by any means! But hey, the imperfections just show it was made by hand and with love, right? The lights in the tree are dollhouse things again and for the presents I just wrapped more bits of balsa.
Definitely a labour of love which I really enjoyed putting together. Thankfully, DD loves them!
Thanks for stopping by.
Cheers
Kerry
