Fishy Birthdays

Fishy Friends is one of my favourite sets and even though it has retired I was happy to drag it out to make some kids cards for an upcoming craft show. The characters are so darned cute that you can't fail to smile!

I think the cards are pretty self-explanatory so I'll just show them and if you have any queries don't hesitate to email me and ask. The last one is an adaptation of a card by Marelle Taylor.

Materials used:
  • stamps - Fishy Friends (retired), Curly Cute, Think Happy Thoughts (retired)
  • card - real red, tempting turquoise, whisper white, pool party, island indigo, wisteria wonder, poppy parade, so saffron, very vanilla, watercolour paper, BigTop Birthday dsp
  • other - 1 1/4" circle punch, 1 3/8" circle punch, 3/4" circle punch, dimensionals, rick rack (stash), poppy parade ribbon, island indigo ruffled ribbon, aquapainter, inks and markers, sponge daubers, non SU embossing folders

DD13 just loves the first one, so I am going to have to watch it doesn't end up in her room instead of for the craft show! I must admit it is my favourite of the three too.

Thanks for calling in.

Cheers

Just Add Summer

Over at Just Add Ink the theme this week is summer and as we're sweltering in the high thirties, what could be more perfect?

One of our favourite holidays was to Vanuatu and we especially loved snorkelling among the coral reefs. Hideaway Island was a day trip we loved, so I made a card to remind me of that. I dragged out my retired Fishy Friends (love these little guys!), added in some High Hopes stamps and made a gel card. (Click on the photo for a larger view)

Here's a close up of the bubbles effect you get from the gel:

If you have never made a gel card, I heartily urge you to give it a go - they are soooooooo much fun and the feeling when you squish the gel around is amazing - my girls just love it!

Thanks for dropping in.

Cheers

Birthday fishes

Ever since we made one at stamp camp, I've been wanting to do a "gel card" using my favourite water buddies, the now retired Fishy Friends. I've been waiting for the arrival of a sea floor background stamp I ordered and it finally came on Tuesday, just in time! DD-turns-11-tomorrow dropped a few hints about wanting a "gel card" for her birthday, so yesterday I got busy. I brayered the ocean background first on one piece of whisper white, stamped the sea floor on another piece and added it over the top. Then the two little fish were raised with dimensionals. Here tis:

I had some trouble with the gel bag, though, as the first one I used burst on me and I had a wet, sticky mess everywhere! Luckily it didn't affect the picture, or I would have had to start all over again! I kinda like this one, I gotta say, so I'm glad it's staying in the family!!! LOL!

Thanks for swimming by! Have a good one!
