Oh, The Places You'll Go

It's my fourth and final challenge as Guest Designer for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and we've a great theme for you!

This week we're challenging you to make a project with VACATION as the theme.

For my easel card I used Tim Holtz Road Trip colorize and Alphanumeric Varsity dies, Stamperia Create Happiness Compass stencil and volume paste, and paper from the 49 and Market Vintage Artistry Everywhere collection. I coloured with distress ink minis

Materials used:
  • card - watercolour, pumpkin pie, starry sky, basic white, Vintage Artistry 'Everywhere' collection (49andMarket)
  • distress inks - carved pumpkin, crackling campfire, mowed lawn, hickory smoke, mermaid lagoon, black soot, picket fence, vintage photo, mustard seed, shabby shutters
  • Tim Holtz products - Road Trip colorize dies, crackling campfire embossing glaze, distress markers
  • other - Big Shot, blending brushes, heat tool, craft foam, Dimensionals, spatula, Volume paste (Stamperia), computer and printer

There's plenty more to inspire you from the design team over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog, so be sure to follow the link to check them out.

As always, the kind folks at Simon Says Stamp are generously giving away a fabulous US$25 voucher to shop at the Simon Says Stamp store - all you have to do is take out your crafting supplies, make something following this week's prompt, and link up at the bottom of the Challenge Blog post. You can join up to 5 times, giving you 5 chances to win! All winners are chosen randomly, so everyone has an equal chance.

I've had a blast taking part in the challenges this month and hope you've enjoyed coming along with me for the ride (pun intended, hehe 😉). Thanks for dropping by.

Cheers

The Card Concept - Travel at Home or Abroad

Welcome to another inspiration challenge with The Card Concept. This time around we have two pictures for you to choose from to jump-start your creativity (we'll be doing this every second challenge).

Option 180a is travel abroad themed, while 180b is travel at home. You pick whichever one inspires you!

For my mixed media card I picked travel abroad focusing on London, which is one of the destinations shown in the pic and one of my all-time favourite places to visit.

I liked the colours of both options so used a combination of these, giving everything but my focal image a sepia tint to tie them together and help the stylised scene to really pop. The map in the background is an actual old map of London.

Materials used:
  • card - black, kraft, basic white
  • Tim Holtz dies - Specimen, Postale
  • other TH products - Backdrops Vol 1, quote chip, Eccentric rub-ons, vintage collage medium, gauge dials, tarnished brass distress paint, distress crayons in vintage photo and walnut stain, vintage photo archival ink, thought token, jump ring, salvaged tags, Memoir ephemera pack, arrow adornment
  • other - Big Shot, rub-on tool, sponge dauber, paintbrush, crop-o-dile, string, craft foam, Dimensionals, mounting strips, corner rounder punch

I hope you'll be inspired to make your own card based on option a or b and share it with us in our gallery. Do take a look at the gorgeous creations my fellow team members have made over on The Card Concept blog.

Thanks for stopping by.

Cheers

Come Fly Away

Yesterday afternoon I had an inspiration.

I was supposed to be making stuff for the craft show, but you know how it is ... when you get an idea in your head and you just have to run with it ... (yeah, that's my new name for procrastinating!)

Anyway, I was inspired by three things:
  • my Ferrero Rocher chocolate suitcase - see this post
  • my sister-in-law's brilliance
  • Tanya Bell's great travel journal and camera box set - see it here
My SIL had made larger versions of the chocolate suitcase for DD14 and myself to put our brand new passports in and Tanya used the gorgeous Sent With Love kit to make a travel themed set, so I decided to combine these two ideas and this is what I ended up with:

The suitcase is made from island indigo 12" x 12" card. Inside is a travel wallet:

And it holds:

Isn't that fun? I had a ball making it and was so totally "in the zone" that DH ended up making dinner! (Anyone see a negative side to that scenario? Me neither!!! LOL!)

Materials used:
  • stamps - Sent With Love
  • card - island indigo, real red, whisper white, calypso coral, Sent With Love dsp
  • other - in colour 2010-2012 brads, crop-o-dile, Hung Up cute clips, corner rounder punch
  • non SU - Velcro dots

OK, now I guess I should be good and get on with the craft show stuff. Darn it!

Thanks for stopping by.
