Mojo Time

It has been a long time since I did a Mojo Monday sketch challenge and I didn't think I'd do one this week either as the sketch looked like something way out of my comfort zone! Take a look:

But late last night I had a go at making one of Corie's gorgeous puffy flowers (see her tutorial here) and as I went to bed, a plan for a card came into my head and was still there first thing this morning. So, up I got and made the card before the idea disappeared!

I'm rather pleased with how it came out and I hope you like it too.

Kind Words

As soon as I saw this GORJUS pearl embellishment at my LSS (that stands for Local Scrapbooking/Stamping Store Lynda!) I knew it would match perfectly with one of the new in colours, Soft Suede. It is so elegant so I tried to create a simple, classy card to show it off to its best advantage. I hope I've achieved that; you be the judge!

Keeping it Simple

Burgundy and cream is one of my favourite colour combos but I seem to rarely use it on cards, so I sat down last night determined to come up with something. The resulting card is fairly simple but I am happy with how it turned out and may just have to use these colours again soon! I have layered the flowers and leaf, which may not be immediately obvious in the photo!


Materials used:

• stamps - Echoes of Kindness, Great Friend
• card - bravo burgundy and very vanilla
• other - watercolour crayons, Martha Stewart lace doily punch, stamp-a-ma-jig, adhesive pearls

Back from the Land of the Long White Cloud

What a welcome Sydney put on for me when I got back from NZ on Tuesday night - a balmy 22 degrees!!! Lovely! And a beautifully warm day yesterday when I could shed all the winter layers and wear just a T-shirt! Although, I have to say, Christchurch did it's best for the middle of winter; the days were mostly sunny and the temperature even reached double figures on two days!!!! LOL!

As luck would have it, I was flying with Emirates, as their luggage allowance is 30 kg rather than 20 kg. My luggage weighed 25 kg going over with all the bits for the workshops (plus a few warm clothes) and 23 kg coming back. Well, you've got to pick up a few goodies while you're away, don't you?

I had a great time - the workshops were loads of fun, I caught up with lots of friends, visited some favourite spots and even managed to visit two stamping/scrapbooking shops. Shock, horror! Did I buy some new rubber? Silly question! One stamp I picked up is one by Rubbadubbado that I thought would go perfectly with the coffee cup from Pun Fun ... and I was right ... here's a card made with them. I call this card my "Monochromatic Macchiato"!!! LOL

I also purchased some Flower Soft and made a card with it using one of my favourite SU sets, now retired unfortunately, called Long Time Friend. I've combined it with some watercolouring and used textured cardstock for a change as the base.

Learning to Tango

How do you like this year's In Colours? Last year's took me quite a while to warm up to, especially Wild Wasabi and River Rock, but I eventually grew to love them all! With this year's batch, I fell in love instantly with four of the six - Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze and Kiwi Kiss. Pacific Point I think is my least favourite and I've hardly used it at all, and as for Tangerine Tango ... well, I think I'm warming up to it a little. I loved how it looked on this card, so yesterday I made the effort to use it a bit more and see what I could do with it to diminish the "in your face bright orange" kind of effect. So here's a couple of cards "doing the tango" as it were!

This one was inspired by a pretty birthday card I received from my team-mate, the lovely Liam. I stamped off the background stamp first but it was still a bit bright, so I toned it down by running my antique linen Tim Holtz Distress Ink pad over it and I did the same over the flower image piece. Lots of sponging around all edges helps give it even more of an aged look. DD17 chose the sentiment (from Bloomin with Beauty) and she LOVES this card - I'm still on the fence, strangely. It seems a little unfinished to me, but then again, DD17 just does NOT understand OCCD (that's Obsessive Compulsive Crafting Disorder!!!!). Maybe it needs ... no! I must stop obsessing!

OK, on to my second tango - inking up new rubber for the first time. Dreams du Jour stamp set and the Bella's Bloom wheel, teamed with paper from Bella Bleu DSP. GOJUS if I do say so myself! Another hit with DD17, amazingly! I'm on a roll!!!
