A Rose By Any Other Name

I wanted to have another run at the mixed media card lesson (see yesterday's attempt in my previous post) and brick wall was my stencil of choice this time around. When I saw Just Add Ink's colour challenge this week includes two greys, I decided to go for broke and combine the two.

I got a bit carried away with spritzing ink on the background so it's ended up a touch grungier than I was hoping for, but ah well, them's the breaks. Take a lookie:

My first step was to colour my texture paste and do the stencilling, then added the ink background, spritzing and paint splatters. The leaf image was stamped firstly in rococo rose ink and coloured using Stampin' Blends, then overstamped with Versamark and embossed with silver. It's the first time I've tried that technique (apparently embossing powder is not good for alcohol markers) and I was very pleased with how it turned out. The last two steps were the stamping of the sentiment and adding a few metallic sequins just for a smidge more silver.

Materials used:
  • stamps - Leaf Canopy (Altenew)
  • card - basic grey, whisper white
  • other - silver embossing powder, heat tool, brick wall stencil, texture paste, spritzer tool, paint brush, Stampin' Blends, Stamparatus, metallic sequins, Big Shot, stitched rectangle die

I love the rose over the greys - what a great colour combo the ladies at JAI picked this week!

Thanks for stopping by. Stay safe.

Cheers
Kez

Edited to add: I was lucky enough to be picked as the winner for this challenge - many thanks to the ladies at JAI.

Lavender Love

Have you had a play with SU's new Shimmer White Embossing Paste? No? OH. MY. GOODNESS. Order some NOW!!!

I had a play with this new product earlier in the week and instantly fell in love. There will be a whole lot more on my next order, believe me.

Here's the first finished card. For this I mixed two drops of flirty flamingo re-inker with a good sized blob of paste (gave me enough for two cards), then used it on SU's diamond decorative mask (comes in a pack with 3 others). It is soooooooo damn sparkly and pretty - trust me, you won't be able to resist this stuff. Hint: once your jar is opened, cover the top with Glad Wrap before putting the lid back on (to stop the air getting to it and hardening it).

Materials used:

  • stamps - Lots of Lavender
  • card - whisper white, flirty flamingo, fresh fig
  • other - shimmer white embossing paste, palette knives, silicone craft sheet, re-inker, Pattern Party decorative masks, blender pen, layering ovals dies, Big Shot, Dimensionals, clear Wink of Stella

Here's a bit closer up so you can see the sparkle.

Have I convinced you yet to get some? Good! Go forth and purchase! (and hey, thanks for calling in)

Cheers
