JAI #680 - Just Add Alcohol

This week at Just Add Ink we're challenging you to...

This could be using alcohol inks or markers, featuring stamps/dies/embellishments to do with alcoholic beverages or something else alcohol-related. For my card I've used two of these.

I blended my background then stencilled over it with the same inks. The drink was coloured with Copics and I used micro glass beads for the salt/sugar on the rim - they give fabulous dimension and look so realistic I'm now craving a margarita!

Materials used:
  • stamps - Supercalifragilistic (Simon Says Stamp)
  • card - basic white, Bermuda bay (Stampin' Up)
  • distress oxide inks - salvaged patina, twisted citron
  • Copic markers - YG01, YG21, YG23, YG25, C0, C2
  • other - craft foam, Dimensionals, MISTI, blending brushes, clear translucent glass beads, glue, stencil, water spritzer

We'd love to see what 'alcohol' inspires in you, and of course to have your projects in our gallery. Check out what my team mates created over on the Just Add Ink blog.

Thanks for dropping by.

Cheers

JAI #649 - Just Add a Colour Combo

Hello and welcome; it's time for another colour challenge with Just Add Ink and the combo we have for you this week is a stunner!

Bermuda bay has long been one of my favourite SU colours and I'll be sad to see it go 😞, so it was nice to have the opportunity to give it a good send off, so to speak. Today I've paired the challenge colours with some neutral black in a simple layered card.

I've had the ombre paper for some time but haven't used it until now - I'm going to have to get it out again soon though, because I rather love the effect here with the embossing. It's quite thin paper and my Big Shot has a ton of pressure, so there's a few little cracks but as there's nothing I can do to fix it, I'm telling myself leaves do often have cracks in them! 😉 As you know, I love layering up my sentiment dies and this one has three layers, making it a nice solid base for the birdie to sit on.

Materials used:
  • card - basic black, basic white, SU retired ombre DSP
  • other - floating foliage 3D embossing folder (Altenew), layered songbird dies (SSS), hugs die, blending brushes, Dimensionals, craft foam, black gem, Big Shot, water and paintbrush

Be sure to check out other inspiration for these colours over on the challenge blog and of course we'd love to see your own creations in the gallery.

Thanks for calling in.

Cheers

Speckles of Gold

I was watching Tim Holtz on YouTube last night - I know, I know, he's a major enabler and I was playing with fire, lol - which had a twofold effect: (1) to make me want the new product he was demonstrating (no big surprise there ðŸ˜‰) and (2) in the absence of those new goodies, I had a craving to play with my distress oxides (come to think of it, that's not surprising either!). At any rate, once I'd done some ink smooshing and had this scrummy panel of gorgeousness (in my humble opinion), of course then it was a matter of 'what am I going to do with it?' Choosing a gold accent was a no-brainer (as you'll soon see what you get to the card du jour) and after placing them on my card base I decided I wanted a sentiment that fit perfectly underneath. Upon discovering an appropriate stamp in the Butterfly Gala set, I then realised I had the perfect entry for this week's Just Add Ink challenge:

Here tis:

In the light this sparkles beautifully but it's a wet and dingy day today, therefore not great for photo taking. I really need an inside set-up with good lighting (strikes thoughtful pose, strokes chin and muses).

The gold outline leaf is a new product in SU's 2020-2021 annual catalogue - isn't it gorgeous? There's a whole range of stunning gold shapes to pick from, you're going to love them.

Materials used:
  • stamps - Butterfly Gala
  • card - whisper white, Forever Gold specialty DSP
  • distress oxide inks - blueprint sketch, wilted violet, peacock feathers
  • other ink - Delicata golden glitz
  • other - stitched square die, Big Shot, blending brush, craft foam, Stamparatus, paint brush, water spritzer

It's a very minimalist card for me but I have to say, each time I look at it I like it more, lol.

Thanks for stopping by. Stay safe.

Cheers

True Colours - CAS on Friday challenge

I just love colour challenges, probably because I love playing with colours in inks and paints etc.

Hi all and welcome to another CAS on Friday challenge! This is challenge #174 and as you may have already guessed, we have some colours for you this time around.

My first instinct when I saw coastal cabana, crushed curry and Bermuda bay together was for an ocean sunrise/sunset scene but I must admit, it floored me at first about how I would incorporate granny apple green. Thankfully, after a few days my brain kicked in to remind me that the sea can be a greeny-blue!

I made simple masks from post-it notes, sponging the sky area first with crushed curry, then Bermuda bay and granny apple green for the water. My only coastal cabana is the card base itself. All-in-all, this card took less than 10 minutes to make!

Materials used:
  • stamps - Thoughtful Branches (SU)
  • card - whisper white, coastal cabana
  • other - blending brushes, post-it notes, 1" circle punch, Stamparatus, clear Wink of Stella, craft foam

Please visit the CASOF blog and my fellow DT members to see what wonderful things they've done with these colours - and don't forget to leave us all some comment love!

Thanks for calling in.
