JAI #585 - Just Add Christmas Gift Packaging

Hello and welcome. With the final stretch before Christmas fast approaching, we have a wonderful challenge for you over at Just Add Ink:

My wrapped treat has a gingerbread component (YUM!) so I decided to make gingerbread and candy cane themed packaging. The house is my first-time make with the new Village Collection dies from Tim Holtz/Sizzix.

I cut the bits for my house from heavyweight watercolour paper (300gsm) and coloured with inks. The window frames, door frame and shutters were left plain. Frosted acetate was placed behind the windows for glass and the icing/frosting-like stuff is actually texture paste piped on. The gorgeous little confections are made of resin and were easily cut to fit my rooftop or glued together for the awning posts.

For the tag it's sitting on, I masked off the inner portion and inked a border, then added both stamped and die-cut greetings.

Materials used:
  • stamps - Peace & Joy (SU)
  • card - heavyweight watercolour (Cansen), Toile Tidings Gift Wrap (SU)
  • distress oxide inks - rusty hinge, candied apple
  • dies - Village Collection (house 1), The Vault Christmas (both Tim Holtz/Sizzix)
  • other - blending brushes, Big Shot, Sticky Grid, Christmas Confections (TH Idea-ology), die pick, embossing paste (SU), masking paper, mounting tape, red tinsel ribbon (SU)

We do hope you'll join our challenge and have tons of fun making your own Christmas gift packaging - there are an infinite number of choices you could make and we'd love to see them in our gallery. Meanwhile, pop over to the JAI blog to see what gorgeous creations my fellow team mates made to inspire you.

Thanks for calling in.

Cheers

Egg Boxes

It's a wet and overcast day today for Good Friday (so excuse my photos being a bit on the dark and dingy side, won't you?) and I've been finishing off some quick and easy Easter boxes for holding chocolate eggs to give to the family.

As luck would have it, our elder daughter's and my birthday often fall at Easter and that is the case this year. I am the 4th (tomorrow) and DD is the 6th (Monday), so that means she is able to be here with us for our birthdays, which is not always the case. She brought her boyfriend with her this year, so we are a happy bunch here in the mountains and enjoying the time together.

I used some of SU's gift boxes to house a variety of chocolate eggs and decorated them simply with papers, adding flowers and ribbon for the girls and keeping them plain and simple for the guys. Here they are:

I haven't made DD's birthday card yet (nothing like leaving it till the last minute!) so I'll be back in a couple of days to show you that.

Meanwhile, we are having a joint celebration on Sunday and Matt (DD22's fella) is cooking us a birthday dinner! Won't we be spoiled?! Can't wait!

Thanks for stopping by.

Cheers

NSU Place In Time

I've another gift box for you today, again using gorgeous Graphic 45 papers mixed with some SU stuff and things from my stash.

These papers are from the Place in Time collection and are the May page.

Materials used:
  • card - basic black (SU), Place in Time designer paper (Graphic 45)
  • other - rich razzleberry satin ribbon (SU), basic black taffeta ribbon (SU), butterfly thinlits (SU), Big Shot, tea lace paper doily (SU), paper bloom (Kaisercraft), rose leaf punch and embossing punch (Nellie Snellen), Dimensionals (SU), tag a bag gift box (SU), crop-o-dile

So striking! These papers are more dramatic than the Secret Garden ones I used on my last gift box (see here) but I love them both. I need to find a larger rose leaf punch though - mine's a bit out of proportion to the size of the flower and the butterfly, lol!

Thanks for calling in.

NSU Secret Garden Gift Box

Still in Graphic 45 mode from yesterday, I made a sweet floral gift box using the Secret Garden range of products and a few bits and pieces I had on hand - years of hoarding pay off, lol!

Materials used:

  • card - wild wasabi (SU), lavender lace (SU retired)
  • papers - Secret Garden (Graphic 45)
  • box - Tag a Bag gift box (SU)
  • paper flowers - purchased
  • ribbon - melon berry satin (PTI)
  • tag - Secret Garden chipboard tags (Graphic 45)
  • other - paper doily, pistachio pudding thick bakers twine (SU), Dimensionals (SU), rose leaf punch and embossing punch (Nellie Snellen), Tied Together embossing folder (Couture Creations), Big Shot, Tombow glue, crisp cantaloupe re-inker (SU), spritz bottle

I just adore the colours and images in this range, so pretty and feminine. I'd be completely stoked if someone gave me a gift in a pretty box like this (hint, hint, family and friends!!!!!).

Thanks for calling in.
