Birthday Blues

It's DD's 19th birthday today and the first time ever she hasn't been home for her birthday, so I'm missing her especially much today. All my love and big hugs have been sent down to Melbourne to wish her a special day - Happy Birthday sweetie xxxxooooo mwah!

Naturally, I made her a card. DD's fav colours are blue and brown and she loves polka dots and cupcakes, so I have incorporated all of those things. I cased the card from the lovely Teneale and borrowed the stamp set from a friend.

As her main present is cash I thought I'd make a couple of small extras to pop in the mail with her card - just fun little things that will give her a giggle. I made a small box filled with her fav choccies and a lollipop holder for the sweet stuff, a post-it note holder as she uses tons of those, and another folder with a notepad, calendar and envelopes which I hope might come in handy occasionally. Here they are:

Materials used:
  • stamps - Crazy for Cupcakes, Party This Way, Afterthoughts, Every Moment
  • card - soft suede, crumb cake, very vanilla, baja breeze, marina mist, not quite navy, watercolour paper
  • DSP - Elegant Soiree
  • other - box #2 die, decorative label punch, vintage brad, marina mist satin ribbon, markers, square punch, soft suede grosgrain ribbon, non SU balloon punch, crystal effects, owl punch
Thanks for stopping by.

If You Find My Mojo ...

... please encourage it nicely to come back!!!

I was busy earlier in the week making a few things for DD No.1's upcoming birthday (more on that Wednesday) and then yesterday had to sit down and create some cards for next Tuesday's class. Well, somewheres in between my mojo wandered off and got lost and I had a terrible time trying to come up with something I am happy with. I'm still 50/50 on these cards but unless a thunderbolt of inspiration hits me between now and Monday, my Lana ladies will be stuck with them!

I am still endeavouring to use up some of my supplies of retired stuff and these bright and breezy papers appealed to me at the time. I had borrowed the Crazy for Cupcakes set and decided to use that for a range of birthday cards and ... well, if you could see the overflowing state of my rubbish bin, you would have an idea of the angst that went on here! Just as well DD No. 2 was at school!!! LOL

So here they are, my three bright and breezy birthday cards:

All the images are stamped on watercolour paper and coloured with inks and markers. Crystal effects gave them some gloss and dimension as well as hiding a multitude of sins with the colouring! I do see one, however, that needs a couple more corrections ....

Materials used:

  • stamps - Crazy for Cupcakes, Party This Way, Sweet Little Sentiments
  • card - taken with teal, daffodil delight, old olive, rose red, watercolour paper, DSP from retired scrapbooking kit (forgotten the name)
  • other - large oval and scallop oval punches, rose red and old olive ribbon, dimensionals, dazzling diamonds

Thanks for dropping in.

Baby Dino

While net surfing over the weekend I found a video tutorial by WonsuponaTime for making a cute little baby dinosaur with SU punches and couldn't resist playing along. Having made that, of course I had to turn it into a card and decided to go with a birthday card for a young boy.

Because I'd used wild wasabi for my dino, I wanted to use the wonderful Celebrations papers but they were a little overpowering. Solution? I put a piece of vellum over the paper to "tone it down" a bit so that my baby dino wasn't lost in the crowd! I'm quite happy with how it turned out - what do you think?

Thanks for stopping by.

Suckers!!!

The 3D project this week over at Stampin' Addicts is a "sucker holder" or lollipop holder, which I thought were really cute. I've used Chupa Chups in mine and made a boy version and girl version using the Party This Way set.

For the boy one I used Celebrations papers and Lap of Luxury DSP for the girl version:

Aren't they cute? And so quick and simple to make - gotta love that!

Thanks for stopping by.

Iconic Aussie Bloke

Move over Ozzie Osbourne ... Ozzie the Owl is coming through!

Yes folks, today is Australia Day, the day when Aussies old and new celebrate being part of this "big brown land". Our family has two "real" Aussies (DH and DD12) and two "new" Aussies (DD18 and myself - both Kiwis), so we always celebrate both Australia Day and New Zealand (Waitangi) Day.

I usually make a card to mark the occasion and you had to know that I just HAD to create another owl, didn't you?

I have come up with an iconic Aussie bloke, complete with Akubra hat with corks (to keep the flies off your face, in case you're from overseas and didn't know) and an ice cold beer in hand. He's standing on a gum leaf and his green and gold banner proudly proclaims his name! Come and meet him .... (click on the photo for a better look) ...

The corks on his hat are made with slivers from a real cork, sewn on with needle and embroidery thread - a very painstaking job, I have to say. The foam on his beer is made from puff paint. Yes, I know, he looks as if he's had a couple of beers already! Well, I tried to make him look as authentic as I could ... ROFLOL!!!

Right oh, Ozzie, let's get back and throw another prawn on the barbie! Hope you are enjoying your Australia Day and thanks for dropping in.

Cheers mate

Gimme A Break!

I've been making so many Christmas cards and projects that I just had to have a break from all that red, green and tinsel and make some "normal" cards! LOL! So here's a couple I came up with.

Firstly an old favourite gets an airing again, this time teamed up with some new loves.

 Materials used:
  • stamps - Just Believe, All A Flutter
  • card, paper - basic black, Newsprint DSP
  • ink - black StazOn, crumb cake
  • markers - pink pirouette, pretty in pink, crumb cake
  • punch - scallop trim border
  • other - Victoria crochet trim, pink pirouette brads, dimensionals
DD12 said it is 'gorgeous' and 'elegant', which is just what I was going for, so I'm happy!

Next I made a birthday card for my big bro over in EnZed. I cased this card from Andrea Walford and just added in a couple of touches of my own. Not sure if my brother is in to bright, cheerful cards, but DH loves it! (Gotta remember that for next year!)

inside the card:

Materials used:
  • stamps - Word Play, Party This Way
  • card, paper - pacific point, real red, whisper white, old olive, Celebrations DSP
  • ink - pacific point, basic black
  • other - dimensionals, pacific point brads, corner rounder punch
I'm off to Melbourne again for a few days to help DD18 pack up and move out of her uni lodgings, so I'll be back next week with more goodies! Have a great week and thanks for calling in.

Older and Wiser

I have seen a few cards around with the owl punch being used for a "Three Wise Monkeys" kind of card and love the idea, so I wanted to do one myself but needed a theme. Once I decided to use the Celebrations designer papers on my owls, that gave me the idea to make a birthday card that makes fun of getting older. This is a type of card I love to give! LOL! Especially to my DH, who is 10 years my senior!

I had to print the sentiment and inside page on the computer as I don't have stamps that say what I wanted. But I had such fun making up my no-evil owls!!! Here they are:

The balloons on the inside are from the set Party This Way, which matches the Celebrations papers. Don't you just LOVE how SU co-ordinates things this way? Gotta love it!

Thanks for stopping by.
